The Highlands

Our journey begins as we make our way through Scotland's land of the Pictish people as we head northwest to the Highlands. We'll spend four nights immersed in the majestic and potent energies of the rugged Scottish Highlands.

Quiet giants, enshrouded in mist, sitting at the edge of lochs, the Highlands give you a sense

of awe, and the site of them truly takes

your breath away.

Some ranges are over one billion years old and predate most life on earth.

Hiker's have claimed that walking on the ridges feels like walking on the spine of a dragon.

Our cozy Highland lodge rests on the shores of Loch Lochy where we'll be welcomed each day with warm fires, hot meals, and nourishing

spa treatments.

The Picts

The Picts, some times referred to as the 'painted people', lived in Scotland approximately 300-900AD. Their culture spread as far north as Orkney, the Shetlands and Iceland, and are known for keeping Scotland safe from Roman invasion.

What remains of their culture is their fascinating artwork carved into stones depicting various symbols, animals, and geometric shapes.

While their history is somewhat foggy, they were known to have extraordinary female leaders tha held high-ranking positions in regards to all matters - spiritual, political and military.

Their kings were born from Queens - one of the few matrilineal monarchies in Europe.

While we'll be visiting just a few of their sites, it's the female lineage of the Picts that has gotten my attention. What they have to share, I'm sure will be revealed to us as we walk their lands.

My Story

Rich in history, the Highlands' mountain roads and lingering lochs lead to ancient sites, historical ruins and mythic landscapes and legends that bring to life Scotland's mysterious past.

We'll visit St. Columba's holy well in Invermoriston where legends reveal that while on his way to meet with Brude, a leader of the Picts, he stumbled upon a poisonous well. After blessing the well, the water became pure and possessed mystical healing powers.

Other sites, such as Corrimony cairn, similar to Clava Cairns further north, a stone circle and passage tomb estimated to be about 4000 years old, sits near Loch Ness revealing Scotland's ancient past.

Cille Choirill, pictured to the left is an ancient symbol of home to many who bear a Highland name. Now, where many rest, including two of the more

well-known Keppoch Bards.

The Naturalist's Haven - Mull

A naturalist's paradise, the Isle of Mull is home to sea eagles, whales and dolphins, along with ancient ruins and sparkling beaches.

First inhabited 6000 years ago,  we'll follow the footsteps of the ancient ones as we walk among the stones of Lochbuie, a mysterious stone circle, well-preserved in a very remote area of Mull.

We'll make our way over to Fionnphort where we'll board our ferry to the holy isle of Iona.

Slip into the Otherworld on the Holy Isle of Iona

Iona... Scotland's holy isle, welcomes you home. A tiny island that has been a well-visited pilgrimage site for thousands of years.

Rich in history and sacred in spirit, Iona is referred to as the "zero-point" codex where duality does not exist.  It is the place of the heart...she reflects back the beauty within our hearts, and also what is not in resonance.

You'll have time to explore on your own, wander her shores, tour the abbey, and climb to

Brighid's Well of eternal youth.

Cozy fires, delicious meals and sacred craftwork will welcome us back at the end of each day out exploring.

The Holy Isle of Iona

Iona_Haggerty_edited.jpg

Iona, the holy isle of Scotland's Inner Hebrides.  This tiny isle holds much mystery. A place where legends speak of the holy family visiting and later, Yeshua and Mary Magdalene.

There is also a much older legend that tells the story of an ancient group of priestesses called the Priestesses of Ank.

They lived/live in the subliminal realm overseeing the original codes of creation.

A family owned weaving mill located in an idyllic, rural setting using fibers from their own sheep, and dye plants from their own garden.  Here, you'll find blankets and clothing that will surely become family heirlooms.

Scottish Whiskey

Local brewers are plentiful in Scotland, small batches of whiskey and gin. I like to purchase small bottles of each for making herbal remedies and flower essences.

Kilmartin Glen & Dunadd

As we make our journey back to Scotland's east coast, we'll first stop at Kilmartin Glen & Dunadd where we find the royal center of Dal Riata.

The area spans 5,000 years with multiple standing stones, carved rocks and castles.

Dunadd, a rocky outcrop that rises out of Moine Mhor - the bog of great moss, stands proudly as the stronghold for the Dal Riata kings.

Climbing to the top, you not only find incredible views, but the stone with the footprint believed to be used as the king's inauguration where the king marries the land. This is a place to ask yourself...

"Are you ready to marry the land and become a steward and an advocate for our beautiful earth?"

Inverary

Before heading on to Rosslyn Chapel, our final stop before returning to Edinburgh, we'll stay overnight in the quaint village of Inverary situated on the shore of Loch Fyne.

The historic George Hotel will welcome us with crackling, open fires, cozy nooks, and stone walls - the oldest, family-owned and run hotel in Scotland.

After our lovely stay here, we'll meander through  the Trossachs, a romantic area known for its sparkling lochs, crumpled hills and sleepy forests before arriving at Rosslyn Chapel.

Your Initiaton

An Cailleach is a goddess of great antiquity. She is the primal life force that dwells deep in the earth, forever stirring her cauldron. While walking through the lands of Scotland, you'll feel her tug at your roots, inviting you to deepen and connect with your own primal nature.

With an Cailleach, are the dragons.  They too are assisting humanity to deepen, and to heal the ravine of separation. Looking through the eyes of the dragon, we perceive only

love and truth.

Rosslyn Chapel

On the final leg of our journey, we'll visit the infamous Rosslyn Chapel. Nestled in rural Midlothian, Rosslyn has attracted mystics, writers and historians for hundreds of years.

Its unique stone-work and mysterious symbolism that adorns every inch of the chapel, has intrigued every visitor that walks through the doors.

Rosslyn is truly an enigma, revealing truths through out time.

Medieval Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a charming and unique medieval city with lots of history, mystery and quirky shops. We'll spend our final two nights in Edinburgh right in the heart of the old town. You'll have time to wander on your own and take in the charm of this unique city.
